WATER WORKS – a Grey Water Project

The Burning Man Earth Guardians are hosting a focus laboratory study this year all about grey water . Our Water Works experiment will measure and document how Black Rock Citizens are radically becoming more and more self reliant in relation to grey water. (Innovative systems that filter into pack-it-out storage units, various grey water evaporation systems, conservation and reuse techniques.).

Focus :Our mission is to design devices for evaporative disposal of gray water on the playa; to build and demonstrate these devices; and to incite other Burners to join in. We will have succeeded when construction knowledge, and devices, are so common that gray water disposal is no longer a problem in Black Rock City .

Black Rock City 2006: We actively seek and invite you to share YOUR innovative grey water system. If you are excited about your grey water system, share it with Black Rock!

  • Have a system? Complete a Water Works Registration.
  • Are you evaporating? Measure its efficiency.
  • Don’t have a system? Complete a survey about how you DO handle grey water.

Want to learn more? Come check it out! We will have some evaporation systems on display in our Water Works Lab at the Earth Guardian Pavilion and share how you handle your grey water. Plans for BM 2006: We will display our grey water reduction experiments while operational at BM 2006. This display will include specific information about grey water, inspire discussion around the topic, highlight our ongoing (real time) experiment, as well as encourage others to share what they are doing.

 

Plans for BM 2007: Workshop Citywide: After better organizing and gathering information in 2006, we will be more equipped to propogate various ideas and systems city wide and full on encourage theme camps, villages, etc to check out the systems that have worked for the people of BRC, as measured by this experiment
