Events at the Earth Guardians Pavilion, Burning Man 2006

Please come and attend one of our events at the EG pavilion! We offer many events where you can learn, discuss, build and have fun. We also have volunteer shifts that need you! Stop by and sign up for a shift or preregister for a nature walk.

Wednesday - August 30, 2006

9:00 AM - 10:00 AM - Dino Hour and More : Kids - visit our 1950's archeological dig site each morning to play with bones, create a claw necklace or just learn about dinosaurs!

10:00 AM - 11:30 AM - Earth Yoga: Bring your own mat. Be there to praise the earth and get your head in the right place to Leave only Positive Traces.

1:00 PM: Kids Mask Making Class - What is your favorite animal? We'll provide the supplies and space to help you create your own animal mask to wear at BM or take home.

6PM: Greening the Man Cocktail Discussion - What is Greening the Man? What are the 6 R's about (Respect, Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Restore). Come and share your visions for making Black Rock City a greener home on the playa. Green cocktails (BYOC) encouraged and expected!

10PM: Earth Party - Come and party down in honor of the playa - we'll be spinning the tunes with the Space Cowboys and sharing the LNT love.

10:00 AM - 11:30 AM - Earth Yoga: Bring your own mat. Be there to praise the earth and get your head in the right place to Leave only Positive Traces.

11:30 Geology of the Black Rock Desert - Ever wondered how those amazing land forms all around Black Rock City? Come and learn how they formed and what they're about.

1:00 PM - Kids LNT PEAK Class - PEAK (Promoting Environmental Awareness in Kids) teach kids about the outdoors and responsible enjoyment of our shared public lands. The PEAK program is based on the seven principles of Leave No Trace and minimum impact outdoor skills for kids ages six to twelve. Fun and colorful illustrated characters, such as Trek & Track (pair of hiking boots), Zoom (binoculars), Digger (trowel), Flash (camera) Pointer (compass), Sparks (camp stove) and Pitch (tent) will show the way.

2 PM: Presentation and Discussion: Ecological Restoration and Environmental Art - Learn about the worldwide movement to repair environmental damage and care for endangered habitats. Eco-art uses natural materials in outdoor settings to examine mankind's relationship with nature. Restoration professionals will talk about their work and how restoration changes our mental and physical relationship with nature and how this work and include art f or future art installations in the Black Rock Desert.

4 PM: Nature Walk and Ecological Restoration - Interested in wildlife outside of Black Rock City? Bring hat, water and clothes suitable for desert hiking. Pre-registration at Earth Guardians pavilion required.

11:30 AM - Toxic Avenger Training - Toxic avengers monitor the burn platforms on Sunday, yes we watch fire! We're helping ensure that no nasties go into the burn platforms and that the platforms aren't overloaded so that our precious playa stays unscarred. Come to sign up and learn about this effort.

2:00 PM- Creating a ReUse Consciousness - (or How Start a Creative ReUse Center) Help keep valuable materials from going to the landfill by starting a creative reuse center in your town! Learn about different models of operation, an overview of the reuse industry, reuse centers best practices, and where the materials come from. With over 500 million tons of waste thrown away in the US annually, isn't it time we learned how to defer some of it?

11:30 AM - Wilderness Groups In Nevada - How can you do more for the Black Rock Desert? Come hear represpentatives from the Friends of Black Rock, the Friends of Nevada Wilderness and the Sierra Club talk about their activities.

2:00 pm- National LNT Program - What is the national LNT program and how does it relate to LNT at Burning Man? Come hear the national LNT traveling trainers talk about their experiences and programs thoughout the country.

Sunday - September 3, 2006

9:00 AM - 9:00 PM - Come help us tend the fires of Black Rock City to ensure that no nasties are burned and that the burn platform's aren't overloaded. Shifts are from 9-noon, noon-3pm, 3pm -6pm and 6pm-9pm. If you are interested in volunteering for this group, please try to come to the orientation meeting Friday at 11:30 am at the pavilion.
